My name is Tom and I’m 12 years old. I live in Madison Wisconsin with my mom, brother and sister. My dad lives in Maine and works on a fishing boat most of the summer, even when the weather is really bad and rainy. Last year I was visiting my Dad for a month and I went out one morning on a fishing trip. It was cool because my dad’s customers were nice people from New York with a son, Freddy, who didn’t like to fish, but had a new Nintendo DS with a bunch of games. While Freddy’s parents fished and ate and played cards, Freddy and I hung out and played “WarioWare”. We played that game all day while my Dad found some great fishing spots for Freddie’s parents to catch fish. Unfortunately, Freddie’s DS ran out of power. We had two hours of boat time left and we got pretty bored. Even though my dad was working hard, he stopped and figured out a way to connect some telephone wires from the boats battery through what my dad called a “transformer" that he made out of tin foil and wire, that collected energy to hook wires into Freddie’s DS and recharge the battery. My dad told me that when he was my age, he did something like this with a potato and wire for his schools science project. My dad really Rocks and I had a great time last summer. He saved the day for Freddy and me. I emailed Freddy and told him I was a Rock Traveler™ and my Rock Handle and when I go to New York next year with my mom, we’re going to get together. He said his parents were going to get him a Rock Box so we could find each other on-line and maybe Discover each other’s rocks when we travel. Freddy is cool and my dad is my hero. Thanks.
